ABOUT

Björn [Nilsson] Hallström

Visual artist. Born in Röda Bergen, Stockholm, Sweden in 1916. Lived and worked in Stockholm, Forssjö in Sörmland, Virsbo in Västmanland and in Lidingö. Worked, stayed and travelled in Sweden, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Tunisia, Norway, Denmark, Åland.

Many paintings and drawings, a few sculptures. Style: Neoclassicism, cubism, neobaroque. Subjects: most often stills, architecture and landscapes, also boats, a few portraits.  Specificities and themes: Light, harmony, abandon. Often his works show a serene and grave side that stood in contrast with his sharp, vivid, energetic and playful personality. A man of many senses, many faces  and many brushstrokes that lived fast and passed away too soon. Björn Hallström died in 1981 and left the world he lived, depicted and longed for behind.

Memories: Björn Hallström was a man loved by many and easy to love, most of them who knew him are themselves gone by now, but among those who remember and knew him

are his second wife,

Gertrud Wieselgren, called Jacko, also she an artist, their daughter, Ann,

and his son Nils and daughter Görel from his first wife Bibi.

Other key persons in his life were

his mother Elsa, his older brother Nicke and sister-in-law Greta,

and his younger sister Sylvia.

Among the artists of his time that he knew, befriended and appreciated

can be mentioned Rolf Svedberg,

Gustaf Rudberg, Gunnel Frieberg,

Caje Huss, Sven Lundqvist,

Torsten Fridh, Birgitta Nino,

Tommy Widing, Göran Brunius,

Louis Bastin, Ebba Hedqvist and

writer Harry Martinson.

Others who became part of his career and life were artistic impressario

Knut Barthel and the galerists at

Färg och Form; Inger Lindell and Madeleine Odelstierna, and of course the audience and collectors who loved and supported his artwork.

Curious but true

Björn [Nilsson] Hallström has sometimes been confounded with art professor and painter Björn [Henrik] Hallström, but they are not the same man. Björn (N.) Hallström has also been confounded with his namesake and author of "I believed in Stalin". Again, it is not the same man.
